U. S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk Sworn Into the 114th Congress

Washington, D.C. (January 6, 2015) – Today, U.S. Representative Barry Loudermilk was sworn into office as a member of the 114th Congress by House Speaker John Boehner. Representative Loudermilk succeeds Congressman Phil Gingrey to represent Georgia’s 11th Congressional District, which includes all of Bartow and Cherokee counties and portions of Cobb and Fulton counties.

“While we will enjoy the ceremonies and traditions surrounding the beginning of this new Congress, it is important we not lose focus of the greater task at hand – getting this nation back on track. Although the challenges we face are significant, I still believe in American exceptionalism. With a long-term vision, a course of action and persistence, we can restore our country to one that is free, safe and full of opportunity,” said Rep. Barry Loudermilk.

House Speaker John Boehner conducted the official swearing-in ceremony on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon followed by an individual swearing-in ceremony for Rep. Loudermilk.

To mark this historic occasion, Rep. Loudermilk took the oath of office with four bibles that each represented a member of his family, including his wife Desiree, daughter Christiana, and sons Travis and Michael. His daughter-in-law Sarah and granddaughter Emma were also present for the occasion.

In addition to the swearing-in festivities, members of the 114th Congress voted on new leadership positions, including the election of John Boehner as Speaker of the House. The House then adopted the rules for the 2015 – 2017 term and discussed general House floor policies.

For the upcoming legislative session, Rep. Loudermilk will serve as a member of two influential U.S. House Committees, including Homeland Security, and Space, Science and Technology.

Barry Loudermilk was first elected to public office in 2001, serving as the Chairman of the Bartow County Republican Party. Recognized as one of Georgia’s top conservative leaders, Barry Loudermilk was then elected to serve in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2004 – 2010 and the Georgia State Senate from 2010-2013. During his tenure in the Georgia State Legislature, Loudermilk championed a number of conservative issues from increasing public safety to limiting the size and scope of state government.

A native of Riverdale, Georgia, Rep. Loudermilk proudly served in the U.S Air Force from 1984 – 1992. A current resident of Cassville, GA, he is actively engaged in his community through his involvement in the American Legion, Civil Air Patrol and Firm Reliance – a non-profit dedicated to educating America on our founding principles.

In celebration of this historic event, more than 120 supporters from throughout the 11th Congressional District traveled to Washington D.C. to take part in the swearing-in festivities.
