FAST FACTS on E-Verify from Alejandro Mayorkas, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

Posted by D.A. King at 2:09 pm - Email the author   Print This Post Print This Post

On E-Verify, Mr. Mayorkas said the program remains a strong tool to help make sure jobs go to citizens and legal immigrants.

“It protects employees from exploitive employers. It enables employers to ensure the lawfulness of their work force, and therefore comply with the law,” he said.

E-Verify began in the 1990s as a voluntary pilot program to allow employers to check new hires’ Social Security numbers to see if they were eligible to work.

More than 170,000 employers are signed up to use the Web-based system. Some states have made its use mandatory for all businesses, and others have required state contractors to use it. The federal government this year began requiring contractors to check both new hires and all employees who are working on federal contracts.

Nearly 97 percent of all workers are approved automatically, while the rest are allowed to contest a non-confirmation. Only three-tenths of a percent of those checked successfully contest a non-confirmation.

Rules for Radicals…Saul Alinsky

Posted by D.A. King at 5:39 pm - Email the author   Print This Post Print This Post

Who knows who Saul Alinsky was?

Saul Alinsky was a radical Marxist community organizer from Chicago and wrote the book “Rules for Radicals” in 1971. He was a mentor of Hilary Clinton who wrote her college thesis on his tactics.

And Barack Obama taught his tactics as a community organizer in Chicago.

Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” is to politics, what Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War” is to fighting.

It’s a playbook on down and dirty, take no prisoners, win at all costs, grassroots organizing. If you understand Rules for Radicals, you will know why the Democrats act the way they do, because it’s their playbook.

And you will be able to use their rules against them.

There are roughly 12 rules.

Rule # 10 says the main job of the organizer is to bait an opponent into reacting. The enemy properly goaded will be your major strength. In other words, if they can get you angry, you look foolish and you lose the argument.

So the number one rule in dealing with those on the left is to be calm, smile a lot, joke a lot, the more composed you are the angrier you will make them. Remember, their goal is to make you lose your temper.

Rule #5 says Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon, it’s hard to counterattack and it infuriates the opposition. So have some fun with them, it drives them nuts and makes them look foolish.

Rule # 3 says go outside the experience of an opponent. Liberals normally do not have the facts and speak from emotion. So ask questions. Pin them down for names, dates and places. The more you press them the more foolish their position will seem.

As an example, who saw the Ben Stein movie about Expelled? This was a classic example of rule #3, getting people outside of their experience, in this case by asking questions.

In one scene he was talking to a professor who believed in evolution. And simply asked him how evolution got started.

The professor recited the big bang theory and one celled animals.. Ben pressed him, you mean 2 rocks collided? When the professor said yes, he said, I don’t understand, who created the 2 rocks? The more the professor tried to explain it, the more foolish he looked. He would say there were these gases, and Ben would say were did the gases come from. You could see on his face, that he was not sure of what he was saying, he actually got red in the face.

1. Take the time to read the 12 rules, you don’t need to read the whole book.

2. Inform yourself. I subscribe to the Washington Times Weekly edition, it gives you all the major events of the week in a nutshell

3. Irritate your opponents by remaining calm.

4. Make fun of your opponents. It doesn’t have to be vicious.

5. Ask them questions, the more you ask them the more foolish they will appear.

The Radical left Playbook…

Rules for Radicals

Ever wonder why Democrats tell bold face, provable lies? They are following the advice of Saul Alinsky, who wrote the book, Rules for Radicals in 1971. He was a mentor of Hillary Clinton, who wrote her hard to find college thesis on his tactics. Our President, Barack Obama not only knows “The Rules,” he taught them as a community organizer for The Developing Communities Project in the early eighties in Chicago.

Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, is to politics, what Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, is to fighting. Anyone who does not know them, is at a disadvantage in a political discussion.

In 1971, Saul Alinsky, a radical Marxist community organizer from Chicago , wrote a classic on down and dirty, take no prisoners, grassroots organizing titled Rules for Radicals. It provides some of the best advice on confrontational tactics.

Alinsky begins this way: What follows is for those who want to change the world from what it is to what they believe it should be. The Prince was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power. Rules for Radicals is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away.

One of Alinsky’s guidelines was “conscience is the virtue of observers and not of agents of action” In other words, the ends justify the means, you can lie, cheat, steal elections and smear your opponent. Because your cause is just, all that matters is that you win.
Another of Alinsky’s tactics was to go on the offensive when caught in a compromising situation. In other words, if you are caught red handed stealing money from a cash register, accuse whoever caught you of spying on you. This explains why Hillary claimed the Lewinski scandal was not only not true, but was manufactured by “a right wing conspiracy” out to get her husband.
For Alinsky, organizing is the process of highlighting what is wrong and convincing people they can actually do something about it. The two are linked. If people feel they don’t have the power to change a bad situation, they will not try.

The organizer must begin the task of agitating: rubbing resentments, fanning hostilities, and searching out controversy. This is necessary to get people to participate. Alinsky would say, “The first step in community organization is community disorganization.” This explains why Democrats continued to say Bush stole the 2000 election, despite the fact that the New York Times reported on November 11, 2001, that after a six month recount by the Times and others, Bush won every way they counted.

Through a process combining hope and resentment, the organizer tries to create a “mass army” that brings in as many recruits as possible from local organizations, churches, labor unions, corner gangs, and individuals.

Alinsky provides a collection of rules to guide the process. But he emphasizes these rules must be translated into real-life tactics that are fluid and responsive to the situation at hand.

Rule 1. Power is not only what you have, but what an opponent thinks you have. If your organization is small, hide your numbers in the dark and raise a din that will make everyone think you have many more people than you do. This explains why the Mainstream Media always has a tight photo of a small leftist protest group.

Rule 2. Never go outside the experience of your people.
The result is confusion, fear, and retreat.

Rule 3. Whenever possible, go outside the experience of an opponent. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat.

Rule 4. Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. “You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.” This explains why the Democrats always pretend to be outraged and demand that Republicans resign over the slightest infraction.

Rule 5. Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It’s hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage. This explains the treatment of Sarah Palin, Dan Quayle and George Bush by the Democrats, the Mainstream Media, Saturday Night Live and other “entertainment” outlets.

Rule 6. A good tactic is one your people enjoy. “If your people aren’t having a ball doing it, there is something very wrong with the tactic.”

Rule 7. A tactic that drags on for too long becomes a drag. Commitment may become ritualistic as people turn to other issues.

Rule 8. Keep the pressure on. Use different tactics and actions and use all events of the period for your purpose. “The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition. It is this that will cause the opposition to react to your advantage.” This explains the relentless attacks by the ACLU and others on traditional American values, business and Republicans.

Rule 9. The threat is more terrifying than the thing itself. When Alinsky leaked word that large numbers of poor people were going to tie up the washrooms of O’Hare Airport, Chicago city authorities quickly agreed to act on a longstanding commitment to a ghetto organization. They imagined the mayhem as thousands of passengers poured off airplanes to discover every washroom occupied. Then they imagined the international embarrassment and the damage to the city’s reputation. This explains Jesse Jackson’s shakedown of corporations with the threat of demonstrations.

Rule 10. If you push a negative hard enough, it will become a positive. Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog. (Unions used this tactic. Peaceful demonstrations during the heyday of unions in the early to mid 20th Century incurred management’s wrath that eventually brought public sympathy to their side). According to Alinsky, the main job of the organizer is to bait an opponent into reacting. “The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength.” This explains why when Gore debated Ross Perot on Larry King, he constantly interrupted him to upset him. And why Democrats tell bold face, provable lies…it infuriates and flusters the person they are debating.

Rule 11. The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. Avoid being trapped by an opponent or an interviewer who says, “Okay, what would you do?” This explains why Democrats never have a solution and only speak in platitudes.

Rule 12. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it. Don’t try to attack abstract corporations or bureaucracies. Identify a responsible individual. Ignore attempts to shift or spread the blame. There are so many examples, Talk Radio Hosts, Palin, Trent Lott, Clarence Thomas, last by not least “Bush lied and men died”

Isakson, Chambliss Criticize Administration’s Comments Favoring Legalization Program for ILLEGAL ALIENS

Isakson, Chambliss Criticize Administration’s Comments Favoring Legalization Program for Undocumented Workers

WASHINGTON November 20, 2009

U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., and Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., today, along with 10 other senators, sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano strongly criticizing her recent comments that legalizing millions of undocumented individuals would be a benefit to the American economy.

The full text of the letter to Napolitano is below:

Dear Secretary Napolitano:

We write to express disappointment about recent statements you made regarding comprehensive immigration reform, particularly comments made at the Center for American Progress on the Obama Administration’s desire to enact a legalization program.

Specifically, we take exception to your argument that legalizing millions of undocumented individuals would be a benefit to our economy. You said, “Requiring illegal immigrants to register to earn legal status…will strengthen our economy as these immigrants become full ‐ paying taxpayers. As labor leaders have made clear to me, immigration reform will be a boon to American workers. Think about it: unions will never achieve the best terms for workers when a large part of the workforce is illegal and operates in a shadow economy. By contrast, the status quo not only hurts American workers, it also stifles potential opportunities to grow our economy.”

With all due respect, legalizing those who have no legal right to be in the United States will not be a “boon” to American workers. Rather, it would only exacerbate the unfair competition American workers currently face as they struggle to find jobs. Last month, the number of unemployed persons in the U.S. increased by 558,000 to 15.7 million. The unemployment rate rose to 10.2 percent, the highest rate since April 1983. Americans want to work; rewarding illegal aliens with the right to hold jobs will not improve the chances Americans have of finding jobs, paying their mortgages, and feeding their families. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to cease any discussion about enacting a legalization program that will only hurt U.S. workers and make it harder for law abiding citizens to weather this economic downturn.

In that same speech, you also stated that “Americans need to know that their government is committed to enforcing the law and securing the border – and that it takes this responsibility seriously.” Unfortunately, we have seen a dilution of enforcement initiatives in the last several months that make us question your commitment to this endeavor. For instance, the Obama Administration has rescinded the “no-match” rule that clarified employers’ legal obligation to conduct due diligence when they are confronted with evidence that a significant number of their employees may have used false or stolen Social Security numbers to obtain work. The Administration repeatedly delayed and then finally weakened the rule requiring contractors of the Federal government to use E-Verify. The 287(g) program that allows local law enforcement to arrest and detain illegal aliens has been changed dramatically to reduce its effectiveness in many communities. The worksite enforcement strategy of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which claims to target employers rather than individual illegal aliens, has replaced worksite enforcement with the Clinton-era policies of administrative paperwork audits, and has led to a dramatic reduction in arrests and deportation of those who are working illegally in this country. Interestingly, the Department’s boasts about a renewed emphasis on enforcement against employers are not matched by actual prosecutions of such employers. Instead, prosecutions of employers have fallen dramatically.

We applaud the Administration for improving U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service’s website, and for continuing the expansion of E-Verify. We also recognize the attention given to the Bush Administration’s Secure Communities Initiative, and appreciate the Department’s willingness to expend dollars provided by Congress for increased drug interdiction at the border.

However, we believe a commitment to the law must start at the top, and that enforcement of our laws should not be undermined by policies that tie the hands of law enforcement officials across the country. We hope you’ll find renewed energy to hold employers accountable, ensure that undocumented workers are not taking jobs from Americans, and enforcement of our laws is being aggressively pursued in the interior and at the border.

“In 1986 Ronald Reagan granted amnesty to 3 million people,” Rubio said. “You know what happened, in addition to becoming 11 million a decade later? There were people trying to enter the country legally, who had done the paperwork, who were here legally, who were going through the process, who claimed, all of a sudden, ‘No, no no no , I’m illegal.’ Because it was easier to do the amnesty program than it was to do the legal process.

If you grant amnesty, the message that you’re sending is that if you come in this country and stay here long enough, we will let you stay. And no one will ever come through the legal process if you do that.”

Gutierrez will be joined by members of many different faiths and backgrounds, including the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Black Caucus, Asian Pacific American Caucus and Progressive Caucus. “We have waited patiently for a workable solution to our immigration crisis to be taken up by this Congress and our President,” said Rep. Gutierrez.

“The time for waiting is over. This bill will be presented before Congress recesses for the holidays so that there is no excuse for inaction in the New Year. It is the product of months of collaboration with civil rights advocates, labor organizations, and members of Congress. It is an answer to too many years of pain mothers separated from their children, workers exploited and undermined security at the border all caused at the hands of a broken immigration system. This bill says ‘enough,’ and presents a solution to our broken system that we as a nation of immigrants can be proud of.”

Price Unimpressed with Obama’s Jobs Meeting
by Connie Hair

12/10/2009

“…Rep. Tom Price, M.D. (R-Ga.), chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), was unimpressed when the president remarked yesterday that he was “committed to working with anybody who is willing to do the job to make sure that we can rebuild our economy.” Since January, the RSC has made nearly weekly requests to meet with the president to offer solutions to the nation’s problems. Some in the committee, including Price, have also accepted the president’s offer to go over the health care bill “line by line” to no avail.

“Excuse me if I don’t take the president very seriously about his latest entreaty to Republicans,” Price said. “If the president is really curious why he hasn’t received significant Republican support, he may take note of the fact that only Democrats have been in the room when bills are drafted and only liberal big-government ideas make their way onto the floor.”

“It’s becoming increasingly clear that the president has no clue how jobs are created, and Republicans would be more than willing to illustrate to the president the principles that have created our nation’s storied success,” Price added. “And if the president really wants to create a bipartisan solution, he doesn’t need a public relations stunt or another speech. He simply has to roll up his sleeves and get to work with us on writing a bill that puts folks back to work; we’re ready any time, any place. Until then, the president really should drop the contrived sincerity. The American people deserve a little better than pot shot politics and blame gaming that have defined the White House’s efforts at bipartisanship.”

Ouch — that left a mark.

Great reading: Honesty on illegal imigration from a Catholic clergyman: On The Immorality Of Illegal Immigration

On The Immorality Of Illegal Immigration
by Father Patrick J. Bascio

Pub. Date: September 2009
232pp

Synopsis

Father Bascio presents a strikingly different perspective on illegal immigration from that of most Christian clergymen. He turns his spotlight on the harm of officially tolerated illegal immigration to America’s own struggling workers in the form of joblessness, shrinking wages and poorer working conditions. African-American workers, already plagued by job discrimination, bear the heaviest burden of the illegal invasion, which locks them out of many workplaces or drives wages below acceptable levels.

The chronic non-enforcement of immigration laws is no accident: Congress has little stomach for ending something so profitable for their most powerful donors and the voters they can muster. The author fears that many committed Christians are blinded to these abuses by their church leaders’ preoccupation with charity toward illegal aliens, while ignoring the plight of millions of low-wage Americans. He deftly rebuts the self-serving myth of employers’ and politicians’ that illegals “do jobs Americans won’t do.” Bascio also sees the profit motive behind legal immigration policies that lure the third world’s best and brightest to America, stripping poorer nations of their physicians, teachers and scientists.

As a Catholic priest, the author admits the unpleasantness of taking a position not shared by his Church’s hierarchy, which is driven by the prospect of rising membership. Bascio sees unchecked illegal immigration as having grave consequences for overall U.S. tranquility: disdain for the rule of law, street gangs, document fraud and identity theft, staggering welfare and education costs and creeping “Balkanization” that threatens the national principle of EPluribus Unum.

Father Bascio’s book is a resounding appeal to Christians to re-examine their churches’ conventional view of illegal immigration and consider the hardship it brings for fellow Americans and its dangers for the nation as a whole.

November 10, 2009: This book reminded me of an admonition to Christians by Christian realist thologian Reinhold Neibuhr: “We are called to be fools for Christ — but not damn fools!”

Author and priest Patrick Bascio makes clear in a relatively short book that the acquiescence in illegal immigration now preached to Americans by Christian leaders is a counsel of immorality. The real victims of explosive, tolerated illegal immigration are America’s own low-wage workers, whose daily struggle for even menial jobs, survival wages and adequate low-cost housing, public education and other public services for their families is compounded by the competition of half a million additional illegal immigrants each year.

But even better-off but now sorely pressed Americans, are feeling the decline of education and public services while they face ever-higher local and state taxes. At he same time they feel the declining security in their communities brought on by rising immigration-related crime and fraud. Can the judgement by Christian leaders that such policy outcomes as “moral” or “just” be sustained?. The author tells us in this succinct, hardhitting book that it cannot. Committed Christians genuinely seeking peace, order and stability in their communities and the welfare of their less fortunate brethren should rightly work to end illegal immigration, not accept and encourage it.

Leaders of organizations of Mexicans in the U.S. announced yesterday that they will ask Janet Napolitano, Secretary of National Security (sic), to halt the firm anti-immigrant policy. Activists of the Mexican-American Coalition for Migratory Reform are searching for support from at least 500 pro-immigrant organizations for a letter that they will deliver to Napolitano in the next few days. In it, they assert that, instead of promoting a migratory reform in the first year of government, Barack Obama aims to “intensify the execution” of anti-immigrant policies.
