D.A. King letter to the editor AJC today: Illegal immigration laws should be passed
Illegal immigration laws should be passed
Most Georgians are unaware that the powerful Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) is opposed to —- and has joined the ACLU in lobbying hard against —- two bills aimed at slowing the crime of illegal immigration. House Bill 2 says local governments must obey a state law passed in 2006 requiring them to obey federal immigration law; Senate Bill 20 would impose financial penalties on local governments that violate federal law by creating “sanctuary” policies for illegal aliens. Both are in the GMA’s “oppose” list.
Lawmakers should ignore the GMA-ACLU coalition and find the time and courage to approve HB 2 and SB 20, two bills that, if passed and enforced, will go a long way to encouraging illegal aliens to migrate out of Georgia —- which is exactly the reason for both organizations’ opposition.
