Jobless rate jumps to 5-year high of 6.1 percent

America’s Jobless

Some Americans and lawmakers make the common error to think that unemployment figures measure people without jobs. Rather, they measure only those people who are actively looking for jobs and have signed up with government unemployment agencies. The potential labor pool is far larger than the government reports because so many people are not in the labor market at all for the following reasons:

they were laid off and ran out of unemployment benefits;
they stopped work because of illness, injury, pregnancy and they didn’t have enough incentive to look for a job or the jobs weren’t attractive enough;
they failed to find a job for so long that they gave up; or
they are disabled (the vast majority of disabled American cannot get a job).

( Dustin Inman) Society supports legal immigration
http://epaper.timesfreepress.com/Daily/skins/Chattanooga/

While American workers watch as wages go down and our job market shrinks along with our state and local government’s budgets, the topic of your recent report — use of the no-cost and dependable E-Verify system to ensure that American jobs are not going to illegal aliens — seems like a no-brainer.

In the (Monday) report, the Times Free Press described the Dustin Inman Society as being “anti-immigration” and those who defend illegal immigration and oppose use of the E-Verify system as “immigrant advocates.”

Let’s be clear: Real “immigrants” join the American family lawfully. Illegal aliens — and their handlers — laugh at our borders and the American laws they deem unproductive to their search for “better life.”

Associating one with the other is the real immigrant bashing.

The Dustin Inman Society supports reduced levels of reasonable and sustainable levels of lawful and controlled immigration that benefits our nation. We proudly demand secure American borders and actively oppose the organized crime of illegal immigration and illegal employment.

We are proud to enjoy the support of countless real, legal immigrants of all backgrounds and ethnicities.

A foolproof method of understanding an important difference: Immigrants don’t require a repeat of the failed 1986 amnesty. Only illegal aliens have that self-inflicted problem.

Steven A. Camarota — Washington Post

How many Americans?

When the Census Bureau released its new population projections last month, most of the media focused on the country’s changing racial composition. But this was almost certainly not the most important finding. The projections show that the U.S. population will grow by 135 million in just 42 years — a 44 percent increase…
