On Sept. 4, police allege, Frances M. Hernandez drove his SUV into a pickup truck, sending the truck and victims inside careening into a Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop in Aurora, Colo., according to the Denver Post. The wreck claimed the lives of the two women in the truck and killed the little boy inside the shop. Just so the activists over La Raza get the picture, that little boy had a name: Marten Kudlis.
Hernandez is being held on three counts of vehicular homicide, reckless driving and hit and run, and his bail has been set at $250,000.
Adding to the shock of Hernandezā killing these three is the defendantās past. Hernandez, 23, an illegal alien from Guatemala, has been arrested some 16 times in the past five years on charges including forgery, assault, theft, fraud and driving under restraint. Police nailed him again in July, according to the Post. He has used at least 11 aliases.
So, two basic questions: Why wasnāt this man behind bars and why is he still in the country?

Illegal, alien and deadly

Grand jury: Crime up by illegals
Group suggests educating immigrants on laws, customs
LAWRENCEVILLE – A grand jury panel said illegal immigrants appear to be committing a “disproportionate number” of crimes in Gwinnett.
In presentments to be published in today’s Gwinnett Daily Post Legal Notices, the panel recommended the county commission and state legislature track the impact of illegal immigration on taxpayers.
“It is the opinion of this grand jury that until the actual impact of illegal immigration is accurately known, rational business decisions to reduce this impact cannot be made,” the presentments read.
The body also asked leaders to study and implement programs to reach out to the county’s foreign-born population to teach them the “laws and customs” of this country.
“This way, law-abiding immigrants may fully understand and participate in the community,” the document reads.
Deputy County Administrator Mike Comer said some outreach programs are under consideration.
“This is not just a job for local government, but it should be done by other groups,” such as the Chamber of Commerce, which reaches out to business owners, Comer said. “It’ll probably be something we develop over time.”

Teen faces adult trial in hit, run
Woman killed in June
By Joe Johnson
9/12/2008
A Clarke County Juvenile Court judge ruled Friday a 15-year-old Athens boy will be prosecuted as an adult for allegedly running over and killing a woman as she walked along Commerce Road in June.
Judge James McDonald listened to two days of testimony before he ordered the case of Able Gonzalez-Perez transferred to Clarke County Superior Court.
Juvenile court proceedings are closed to the public, and authorities would not release Gonzalez-Perez’s name while his case remained in the juvenile justice system.
Authorities say Gonzalez-Perez was at the wheel of a borrowed pickup truck the night of June 14 when it swerved onto the shoulder and hit 19-year-old Nayasheika Cooper from behind.
The driver sped off and left Cooper to die on the side of the road, according to police.
Cooper was walking with her 3-year-old son from their home on Commerce Road to a nearby convenience store.

The Georgia State Labor Commissioner, Michael Thurmond issued this release today:
The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that 59,090 laid-off workers filed first-time claims for unemployment insurance benefits in August, an increase of 72.1 percent from August of 2007.
From July to August, the initial claims declined from 59,165, a drop of one-tenth of one percent.
āThe August increase is the largest over-the-year increase in initial claims since October of 2001, when we began experiencing significant layoffs following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks,ā Thurmond said.

The fence wil fall far short
A survey data report release by American Border Patrol shows that the federal government has added only 23 miles of new fencing since April, or about five miles per month. Based on this progress it appears very unlikely that the Department of Homeland Security will meet the legal requirement…

Amnesty advocates active on 9/11 anniversary
Published: 09/11/2008
D.A. King
Remember the media focus last year when the U.S. Senate debated another amnesty for illegal aliens and illegal employers – and was dissuaded by hundreds of thousands of phone calls, faxes and e-mails from outraged Americans screaming “NO MORE AMNESTY!”?
Of course you do. We all do.
Neither are many Americans likely to forget the fact that the media and the two most well-funded presidential candidates are virtually ignoring the border security/ immigration crisis this year. With an elephant in the parlor, the conversation seems to be about the wallpaper.
Using border security, legalization and immigration as campaign topics does not produce unquestioning, pliable voters.
But not everyone is ignoring the matter.
Led by a tax-exempt organization that receives taxpayer funding, and whose name in English is “the National Council of the Race,” the usual suspects for open borders have put up a pro-amnesty attack Web site called “We Can Stop the Hate.”
With the typically heavy-handed and convoluted mindlessness of the far left, the goal is to smear anyone who led the American people’s successful effort to stop another amnesty last year. All of whom are of course portrayed as bigoted “haters.”
The hope is when the next amnesty bill oozes up in Washington, the most effective messengers for sovereignty, security and enthusiastic immigration law enforcement will have been marginalized enough to be disregarded.
The name on the Web site could easily have been “We Can Stop the Debate.”
No one can go far wrong in describing the amnesty-again coalition as that of the radical far-left and the Chamber of Commerce.
Which brings us to the “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” activist-recruiting seminar being held in the Atlanta area today by an organization of business interests calling itself “Immigration Works USA.”
Today, of course, is the seventh anniversary of the horror of Sept. 11, 2001.
Something else Americans are not missing: our borders remain unsecured – and it’s all about the money.
Sponsored by an assortment of business interests like the American Hotel and Lodging Association, the American Nursery and Landscape Association, the National Association of Homebuilders and, yes, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the stated goals of the organization are crystal clear: “To educate the public about the benefits of immigration and build a mainstream grassroots constituency in favor of an overhaul – business owners and others from across America willing to speak out and demand that it gets done.”
This organization could have been named “Taxpayer Subsidized Labor Works for Us.”
Understand that regardless of its colossal funding – and political connections that run all the way to the White House – amnesty was defeated last year by the united voice of the American people who know that “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” and an “overhaul” of our immigration laws really means legalization, increased immigration, more workers and lower wages.
You can’t envy the job of convincing the public that we need more “willing workers” when the each day’s headlines bring more and worse news about record levels of unemployment and government budget cuts for Americans.
It is vital that we all realize that the American elite will never stop trying to open American borders to the free flow of labor.
On controlling immigration and protecting American labor, the founder of the American Federation of Labor, Samuel Gompers, said it very well in 1924: “Every effort to enact immigration legislation must expect to meet a number of hostile forces and, in particular, two hostile forces of considerable strength. One of these is composed of corporation employers who desire to employ physical strength at the lowest possible wage and who prefer a rapidly revolving labor supply at low wages to a regular supply of American wage earners at fair wages. The other is composed of racial groups in the United States who oppose all restrictive legislation because they want the doors left open for an influx of their countrymen regardless of the menace to the people of their adopted country.”
With our nation taking in more legal immigration than any other nation in the world – an unreasonable and unsustainable million-plus legal immigrants per year – Americans watching the current presidential campaign should not allow candidates to ignore the border security crisis – or the immigration issue, legal or illegal.
Another thing to remember: On amnesty, the open borders lobby only needs to win once. The American people must prevail in every battle.

Alert! House Leadership to Give 550,000 Jobs to Foreign Workers!
Even though the official unemployment rate climbed to its highest level in the last five years, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), the chair of the House immigration subcommittee, is seeking to add 550,000 green cards for foreign workers next year.
The Judiciary Committee may vote this week on HR 5882 to give hundreds of thousands more American jobs to foreign workers. The bill is packaged as a means of “recapturing” unused visas from previous years, but, in fact, unused visas already roll over to the following year. The legislation contrives a formula to double-count the unused visas by adding them to multiple categories to effect a huge total increase.
