The scramble for America
Patrick J. Buchanan
What is it that distinguishes Bush Republicanism from the Coolidge, Taft, Eisenhower and Reagan varieties? Four major issues come to mind.
Bush is a “Big Government conservative” who repudiated the “government-is-the-problem” philosophy of Reagan. His No Child Left Behind program, doubling the size of the Department of Education, and his vast expansion of Medicare to cover prescription drugs so testify.
Second, Bush believes in Wilsonian interventionism, including the use of military force, to advance a “global democratic revolution” and “end tyranny on earth.”
Third, Bush believes in open borders, amnesty and “a path to citizenship” for 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens, and smoothing the way for untold millions more to come and “do the work Americans will not do.”

Reports: Alien laws had effect on Carroll
By Laura Camper

After the new Georgia immigration regulations went into effect this summer, some familiar faces disappeared, according to the president of the Hispanic Business Council in Carroll County.
“I have seen a decline when I go to different restaurants and things, the service folks, some of them we used to know, …they’re not there anymore,” Jorge Gaytan said. “I think that the number of Hispanic folks who have worked in the service industry has declined here in Georgia in general and in Carrollton in particular. Even though it’s just been three months, I do see a change.”
Gaytan thinks the changes are because of some Hispanics leaving for other states and some being let go by their employers.
“We know of several families who have taken their things and have gone somewhere else because they feel that Georgia has the toughest laws,” he said. “Some of them just don’t want to leave because they have a lot of roots here already but their being let go by the employers.”
Gaytan also mentioned an increase in the number of raids by immigration officials – a reaction to talk of possible amnesty for some illegal immigrants, he thinks.
“We think they want to clean house in preparation of, if the federal government passes laws that would allow them to stay,” he said. “A lot of times, they are looking for folks who have a warrant for their arrest because they did something wrong. And I happen to agree with that. I think that folks that have done something wrong, that are criminals should be sent back.”
However, other people are being caught in the crossfire, he said.
Gylia Gonzalez of Latinos United of Carroll County also mentioned an increase of raids, including one at Azalea Place Apartments on Thursday.
However, the Carrollton police and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office have no record of such a raid and could not confirm that a raid took place. Citizenship and Immigration Services did not respond to questions about increased raids by press time.
Sheriff’s Capt. Shane Taylor said he could not remember the last time his agency dealt with an illegal alien.

Bail for illegal immigrants targeted
Saying too many illegal immigrants are jumping bond and skipping court appearances, a state lawmaker is proposing that Superior Court judges be the only people who can set their bond.
Magistrate court judges set many of the bonds for people charged with felonies. The exceptions are the most serious violent offenses, including murder, rape, armed robbery and aggravated child molestation, as well as some charges involving felony-grade drugs.
State Rep. Calvin Hill, R-Canton, said prosecutors and law enforcement officials in his district of Cherokee County are frustrated by illegal immigrants who skip town after making bond. He recently proposed a bill that would take bond decisions out of the hands of magistrates in cases involving illegal aliens charged with felonies.
“It’s just a problem all the way down the line, where justice is not being served,” Hill said this week. “Let’s face it, if I was facing five years in jail, I might choose to borrow the money and return to my country of origin to avoid jail time.”

Mexican president tells U.S. governors: migration inevitable, natural
By: MARK STEVENSON – Associated Press
PUERTO PENASCO, Mexico — President Felipe Calderon told U.S. governors Thursday that immigration is an inevitable, natural phenomenon and he urged the U.S. Congress to approve reforms that would allow more Mexicans to work legally north of the border.
Calderon demanded that the United States respect “the right to work wherever one can make the greatest contribution.”
“Immigration is a natural phenomenon that is economically and socially inevitable,” he told the meeting in this seaside resort.
In a rare acknowledgment of the costs of migration for Mexico, Calderon said his country “doesn’t not celebrate migration … our best people are the ones who go.”
Immigration and border security were among the top issues at the meeting, the 25th annual such event between Mexican and U.S. governors from states along the two countries’ common border.

Hours after having returned from Washington, I got a call from CNN HEADLINE NEWS to respond on camera to the news story below…it seems that they were looking for someone who understood that illegal immigration – and harboring illegal aliens is ILLEGAL – and for someone who has a face for radio.
I seem to fit the bill.

Some KC area church leaders pledge to offer sanctuary to illegal immigrants
By LYNN FRANEY
The Kansas City Star
Standing under their Interstate 70 billboard declaring, “Love the immigrant as yourself,” several Kansas City area church leaders pledged Tuesday to offer sanctuary to illegal immigrants threatened with deportation.
None of the Kansas City churches has yet sheltered an illegal immigrant.
But other churches in the New Sanctuary Movement nationwide have let illegal immigrants live on their properties, hoping that immigration agents won’t raid churches to make arrests.
“It is the very soul of our nation that is at stake” in how we treat families in which one or both parents are illegal immigrants but the children are American citizens, said the Rev. Rick Behrens of Grandview Park Presbyterian Church. “We are losing our soul as we separate children from parents.”

Illegal immigrants moving out
USA Today
Illegal immigrants living in states and cities that have adopted strict immigration policies are packing up and moving back to their home countries or to neighboring states.
The exodus has been fueled by a wave of laws targeting illegal immigrants in Oklahoma, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia and elsewhere. Many were passed after congressional efforts to overhaul the immigration system collapsed in June.
Immigrants say the laws have raised fears of workplace raids and deportation.
“People now are really frightened and scared because they don’t know what’s going to happen,” says Juliana Stout, an editor at the newspaper El Nacional de Oklahoma. “They’re selling houses. They’re leaving the country.”
Supporters of the laws cheer the departure of illegal immigrants and say the laws are working as intended.
Oklahoma state Rep. Randy Terrill, Republican author of his state’s law, says the flight proves it is working. “That was the intended purpose,” he says. “It would be just fine with me if we exported all illegal aliens to the surrounding states.”
Most provisions of an Oklahoma law take effect in November. Among other things, it cuts off benefits such as welfare and college financial aid.
There’s no hard demographic data on the trend, partly because it’s hard to track people who are in the USA illegally. But school officials, real estate agents and church leaders say the movement is unmistakable.
In Tulsa, schools have seen a drop in Hispanic enrollment.
