(Responses to "Illegal immigration and how Georgia can deal with it," by D.A. King, Perspective, Dec. 14)

Other sidegets voice
Finally, a refreshing point of view in the illegal immigration debate!
The column by D.A. King explains in a nutshell what the illegal immigration situation is in Georgia, what other states are doing about illegals and what legislation is pending in the Georgia General Assembly. Instead of whining about what poor, pitiful victims these lawbreaking illegals are, the writer shows them for what they are and what can be done.
What part of "illegal" do our legislators not understand?
Many thanks for presenting this side of the debate to your readers.

Georgia unwilling to deal with issue
Kudos to D.A. King for his recent fine guest viewpoint on how Georgia can deal with illegal immigration. As a former immigration inspector with the INS, I can attest to the accuracy of his viewpoints and agree that Georgia is purposely failing to protect Georgians from illegal immigration.
I would give Georgia a grade lower than F-minus if one was available. Instead of merely failing to protect us, our state government is purposely abusing us lowly citizens in order to protect business interests that profit from illegal aliens and actively aiding those who pander to Hispanic special interest groups. Ditto for most politicians we think are representing our interests in Washington.
In spite of what Georgia's political leaders would have you believe, state and local law enforcement officers are allowed to help enforce immigration laws and have been for almost 10 years. Any law enforcement official that claims they are forbidden to help enforce immigration laws certainly tells you a great lie.
Any state or local official or any law enforcement officer who says it is a strictly a federal matter is quite clearly violating their sworn duty to enforce laws.

Enforce our own laws
Thanks for printing a column that addresses the concerns of many Americans, many Georgians and many Gwinnett County residents.
In so many articles, the slant is: What can we do to be more accommodating of illegal aliens? How can we provide better health care for them, more English classes, more services in Spanish, anything but what can we do to enforce our laws and take care of legal immigrants and law abiding citizens.
I am glad to know we have legislators willing to tackle the difficult issues while waiting on Washington to get its act together.
